The shells of psyllium contain most of mucilage.
Psyllium have a cleansing effect on the stomach. The mucilage, which are formed during feeding, bind the sand deposits per se, so that they can be excreted better. In general, psyllium thus have a positive effect on digestion.
Psyllium is approved by the EU as a feed material for animals.
Psyllium husks for horses:
For sand colic of horses psyllium is often as a cure recommended.
Please consider the advice of a veterinarian if the seeds are to be sprinkled dry or soaked in the diet.
Psyllium is very often recommended in combination with mesh.
1x daily approx 50 g in 1 liter swell water and mix with the feed.
Psyllium husks for cats (and dogs):
The addition of psyllium husks makes sense especially for overweight cats and dogs. Psyllium give the quadrupeds faster satiety, so that fewer calories are absorbed. Please also provide here enough water to drink.
The psyllium husks are mostly scattered to swell in plenty of water (about 20 minutes) and then mixed into the feed.
Psyllium should not be fed dry as a rapidly swelling effect begins.
